Not Steven Berghuis, but Donyell Malen has a basic place as a right winger on Sunday during the Nations League match between the Dutch team against Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was not an easy choice for national coach Frank de Boer.
“Of course I had come up with a battle plan against Bosnia and then you look at what else you have in the front”, De Boer says to the NOS. “With Luuk de Jong we have a point of contact, but then you also need running boys who like to get into the sixteen. Otherwise it will be very static.”
Berghuis left a good impression against Mexico (0-1). “He did make it difficult for me. He was one of the better ones in the game. I told him that too,” says the national coach about the Feyenoord captain. “But I still believe that this setup is the best at the moment. We will see how it turns out. It is good to know that Berghuis is in good shape and I can use it.”
Frank de Boer chooses Donyell Malen instead of Steven Berghuis in the match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. “But Steven has made it difficult for me.”
